Greetings from the halfway checkpoint of my morning walk!
A thought. Do yourself a favor and learn to care more about the message than the messenger. And be radically open-minded about where you source your worldview (I rant about this in the 12-week paper system).
Earlier this week I had the honor and privilege to bless my hearing sensors with LL Cool J on a podcast and… It just completely blew my brains (and I mean in a positive way). Just so much inspirational, positive, and energizing messaging.
And in a strange way I felt bad for people who refuse to even consider listening to stuff like this because it’s not smart enough for them.
Happens a lot and it brings to mind a specific discussion a couple of years ago with a Giga Smart colleague of mine who simply had never listened to any podcast because he thinks they’re all just one big right-wing psyop and/or dangerous to science.
Some are like that. Sure.
But also.
What a way to live a life. Call yourself smart but ignore advice if it comes from an imperfect source. Plus image r the arrogance of elevating yourself to a flawless perfect status if that’s the only accepted source of knowledge… Because I bet the same people are happy to consider their own opinions valid.
Just because a discussion contains a handful of radical, anti-science, and woo-woo elements… I’m sorry but it doesn’t make the rest of the discussion worthless.
And if you truly learn to compartmentalize your input…. You might just discover an entirely new world of ideas and delightful pieces of information that make the mundane life way more fun.
Anyway open-mindedness and diversifying your input are the right moves to enhance your output.
Over and out. I have the rest of my walk to finish.
Simo
